An incomplete copper alloy Roman plate brooch, dating to the period c.AD 100-300. The brooch is oval in plan, with a raised oval rim at its centre, which would have held a stone or coloured glass.A series of concentric beaded bands surround the central oval bezel. Traces of guilding remain on the bands. The reverse exhibits the remains of the attachment for the pin, situated at the apex. The button and loop fastener is of the single headed variety and exhibits a teardrop shaped head decorated with a narrow lenticular moulding at the apex of the point. A post medieval copper-alloy mount, dating to the period c.AD 1500-1700. The mount is circular in plan, with a projection extending from 12 o clock and 6 o clock.
