Object type: HANDAXE
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete ovate or cordate handaxe of Wymer's (1999) type J or K. Invasive soft hammer percussion to both faces, removing all trace of the cortex and/or any trace of the original blank (frost fracture, large flake or flat nodule). The flint is patinated a pale off-white with faint yellowish mottles, both faces have a few spots of iron stains. The flint is cracked by thermal (frost) exposure, the cracks are more extensive on one face than the other, and is responsible for the loss of the tip, the breaks followed the crack lines and are patinated the same as the rest of the handaxe, in…

Object type: AXE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Short, stout axe of off-white patination with the coarse inclusions now light grey in appearance, with spotty iron stains to both faces, mostly to the high points. All flake removals are hard hammer struck, the flaking angles to the edges are at 90 degrees so many removals have repeatedly terminated in step or hinges, the edges are not ground after flaking. The cutting edge is only slightly convex and is very likely to have been reshaped from an originally longer axe, presumably after damage to the original cutting edge has occurred from use. The patination is complete and unmarred…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Barbed and tanged arrowhead, of Green's (1980) Kilmarnock type, with the pointed tang exceeding the length of the barbs, all three elements appear to be undamaged, the point however is broken transversely in antiquity. Both faces are entirely covered with invasive pressure flaking, overlapping neatly at the centre, with good symmetry overall. The flint is pale grey, with small, fine, white inclusions, both faces have small, pale iron stains. Early Bronze Age.
