A partially worn Medieval silver penny of Edward I (r. 1272-1307). Minted at Durham, between 1282-1289. Class 4b, North 1025. Cross Moline Initial and mintmarks. Obverse: Crowned bust facing with a bifoliate crown, spear ornaments and wedged drapery. Bust is heavily worn. Legend: "EDW R' ANGL' DNS hYB' ". The S is eggwasted.. Reverse: Long cross dividing legend with three pellets in each quadrant. Leg.: "+CIV/ITAS/DVR/EME". The coin was struck very hard and a ghost of the long cross is visible across the bust. Measurements: 19.09mm in diameter, 0.7mm thick and 1.46g in weight.
