An incomplete and abraded early-medieval silver penny of Offa of Mercia (757-96), Light Coinage (c.765-92), Moneyer: Babba (Chick 91/Blunt 6/north 267), mint: Canterbury. Ref: Chick 2010: 101, plate 13.
The coin is in poor condition much of its edge and one more substantial fragment. It is cracked in four places (seen vertically on the reverse most clearly) ,appearing to be fold marks although whether this is from pre- or post-deposition activity is hard to gauge.
