An incomplete flint borer of late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age date (c. 1000 BC - 1BC). Description: The borer is sub-triangular in plan with a low flaked dorsal face and rounded convex ventral face. Much of the flaking seems incidental and not finely executed. There is limited short scaled semi abrupt retouch creating the boring point opposite the flat edge with cortex still adhering. The flint is heavily mottled dark through to light grey with some blue white where it is recorticating. The long flat edge has light brown cortex still adhering to it. Measurements: 38.57mm long, 4…

An irregular flint scraper likely dating from the late Neolithic to Bronze Age c.3300BC - 1000BC . Description: The scraper was produced from an irregularly struck flake which dog-legs right about halfway along its' length. The internal curve has light short scaled semi-abrupt retouch. The flint is fresh and is a light grey colour with light brown semi-transluscent edges. Measurements: 42.09mm long, 37.32mm wide, 13.3mm thick and 14.51g in weight.

An irregular flint scraper likely dating to the Bronze Age or Iron age c.2400BC - 0BC . Description: The scraper was produced from a highly patinated older flake or tool and is now roughly trapezoidal in plan with curved edges and corners. The edges have short scaled abrupt to semi-abrupt retouch along them save for edge with the original striking platform. The tool is white and heavily patinated with some iron staining, where visible, like along the lines of retouch for example, the internal flint is a light grey brown. Measurements: 29.56mm long, 34.53mm wide, 8.22mm thick and…

A coarse flint scraper likely dating to the late Bronze Age or Iron age c.1000BC - 0BC . Description: The scraper was produced from a broken elongated ovoid primary flake (indicated by the substantial cortex remaining on the dorsal face) from a larger possibly naturally shattered flint (indicated by the multiple step and pitted like fractures on the part sof the edges). The flaking has left substantially conchoidal ripples on both sides of the flint and a substantial bulb of percussion on the ventral face, indicating hard hammer (stone on stone rather than antler, bone or padded …

An irregular flint scraper of uncertain date, possibly of Neolithic to Bronze Age date (c.4000-1000 BC). Description: The scraper is irregular shaped, with one concave rounded edge, an opposite convex edge and one pointed shouldered flat edge. It is formed from a secondary flake. The flaking along both facing edges, the bulb of percussion and conchoidal scarring (rippling) on the ventral face is very pronounced which suggest hard hammer technology. The rounded corner between the curved convex edge and the long edge with cortex has scaled semi-abrupt retouch struck from the dorsal…

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A possible flint denticulate of uncertain date, probably Late Bronze to early Iron age date, but a late mesolithic or early Paleothic date cannot be discounted. Description: The denticulate is an irregularly quadrilateral in plan with a wider lower face and slopping sides creating a 'pillow shape'. The tool is formed from a natural flake or accidental removal. It has blunted sides formed by invasive scaled abrupt retouch down one side and then irregular blunting on the other. The distal end has a limited denticulate retouch along it. The flint is very dark grey mottled to black. Th…

A flint borer of uncertain date likely Mesolithic to early-Bronze Age (c. 9000 - 1000 BC), Description: The borer is roughly L-shape in plan, formed from a secondary flake, the upper arm of the L-shape is formed from short scaled semi-abrupt well formed retouch. There is retouch around the bottom corner up to a crescent indent on the outside of the upper arm. The bottom right corner of the base is covered in light brown cortex. The flint is dark grey-brown with some patches of light grey at the tip of the borer. Measurements: 35.56mm long, 29.58mm wide, 6.56mm thick and 4.3…

A flint scraper likely of mesolithic to early Neolithic date (c.9000 - 3300 BC), utilising an earlier flake. Description: The scraper is sub-triangular in shape with a wider outter slighlty concave edge, an inner convex edge and a wide body. It is formed from a tertiary flake. There is retouch along the convex edge bifacially worked formed by short very regular scaled semi-abrupt removals. The short edge has some less regular short retouch creating a bit of a longer boring point. There is some more invasive retouch along the outer edge. The bulb of percussion is fairly subtle althou…

A flint scraper likely of Bronze age date (c. 2200 - 800 BC), utilising an earlier flake. Description: The scraper is sub-triangular (almost teardrop) in shape with a wider outer slightly convex edge, an inner concave edge and a wide body. It is formed from a secondary flake with some cortex remaining on the outer edge. There is retouch along the convex edge formed of short very regular scaled semi-abrupt removals. This retouch goes through flint that has begun to recorticate indicating this retouch occured a substantial amount of time after the production of the flake. The short e…

A flint scraper likely of Bronze age date (c. 2200 - 800 BC), utilising an earlier flake. Description: The scraper is sub-rectangular in shape with one slightly wider corner. It is formed from a secondary flake with some cortex remaining at the distal end. There is a retouch along the right hand edge formed of short very irregular scaled semi-abrupt removals. A near complete flint scraper likely Neolithic-Early Bronze age date (c. 4000 BC - 1000 BC). Description: The scraper is sub triangular in shape and formed from a tertiary flake. There is extensive short scaled semi-abrupt to abrupt retouch along the mesal (sides), which comes in from both the ventral and dorsal facings to create a very slightly curved point. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are very irregular and has been extensively, heavily struck and reshaped removing much of the bulb etc. The bulb of percussion and the conchoidal fractures are very pronounced which…
