Reverse type depicting Roma seated left holding Victory on extended right hand, vertical spear in left, shield below. Mint of Rome. Cf. A Medieval copper alloy zoomorphic vessel spout, probably from an ewer and dating c. AD 1400-1550. The spout terminates in a simplistic moulded dog's head with the spout projecting outwards from its open mouth. The upper snout is sub-triangular to trapezoidal in cross section and is sub-rectangular when viewed above, with a rounded, slightly lipped nose. The behind the snout the spout expands into a sub-rectangular head, with no idication of eyes or further additional detail. Medieval silver penny of John dating to the period AD 1207 to 1210. Short cross class 5c. Minted by Walter at London. North (1994:221) no.971. The flan is struck off-centre and is bent in two directions and has one minor crack and a more substantial crack (on a chord...does not extend toward the centre).
