Record ID: PUBLIC-B17CAA
Object type: MUSKET BALL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead musket ball of probable post medieval date. There are two flattened areas on the surface, probably where the sprue has been removed, and the mark left by the ramrod. The surface is covered with thick white patination. The weight (35.8g) and size (18.9mm) are consistent with use in a smooth-bore musket of military specification, and it probably dates to the 17th century, though a later date cannot be ruled out.
