Gold posy ring of flattened D cross-section and plain hoop. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text No hap so hard as loue debard [sic] in italic style. The motto or poesy is followed by a punched maker's mark, a raised Roman capital B within a circular recess (unknown).
External hoop diameter circa 20mm; band width 4mm; thickness nominally 1mm; weight 1.69g.
The inscription 'No hap (happening / luck) so hard as loue (love) debard (excluded) is known from the late Elizabethan times but became more popular during the Jacobean era.
