Late Medieval silver gilt finger ring. The ring has no bezel and is a simple hoop, D-shaped in section with a straight inner side. The hoop has been slightly bent and distorted towards one edge. The outer side is decorated all the way around with a repeating pattern of chevrons formed of incised chevrons with raised chevrons between. There are seven broad raised chevrons each flanked by narrower raised chevrons and separated by seven broad indented chevrons. Treasure case 2011 T232: Disclaimed Description: Fragment of Roman silver finger ring which has been broken at the shoulders leaving only a short, distorted, section of the hoop on each side of the bezel. The hoop is a very flat pointed oval in section and widens evenly at the shoulders into a wide, flat bezel with a raised oval box, 13.7mm by 11.9mm externally. This would have held a gem, now missing. There are traces of incised lines on the shoulders, a single line angles inwards from each side. Medieval silver finger ring. The ring has a flat inner side and edges with the outer side shaped into 21 regularly spaced indented curved panels divided by cusps. Each alternate panel is inscribed with a letter, except for the cross at the start of the inscription and R at the end are adjacent. The inscription reads: + AVE MARIAE R, probably a contractions of Ave Mariae Regina, Hail Mary Queen. This refers to Mary, mother of Jesus as Queen of Heaven.
