Counterfeit copper alloy cored silver plated coin, probably copying a Roman denarius of unclear emperor dating to AD 1 to 260. Unclear reverse type. Unclear mint. Only small amounts of the silver sheet outer coating remain but the size, thickness and the small amount of the design suggest it might be a denarius rather than a later, Post Medieval, silver coin that was copied.

Treasure case 2017 T1184: Disclaimed returned to finder Description: A medieval silver penny which has been modified to form an item of jewellery. The coin was pierced twice, at 11 and 1'oclock on the obverse, (5 and 7 o'clock on the reverse) with sub-circular piercings, one drilled from each side. One hole has cracked through to the edge. The other hole is worn into an oval shape. There are also traces of gilding around some of the letters on the reverse.
