Body sherd from a glazed medieval jug with applied strip on the outer face. The high fired fabric is a reduced mid-grey with a mid-buff on the inner surface only. It has common fine-medium sand temper and very occasional angular pieces of patinated chert/flint up to 1.9mm and very occasional rounded quartz up to 1.2mm. Rim sherd from a closed vessel, probably a cooking pot, dating to the 11th to 12th century. The rim is everted and has broken at the point it met the vessel wall. A small amount of wall on the inner face suggests a c. 120 degree angle between them. The upper part of the rim is widened and stands up slightly with a rounded beaded outer edge and vertical inner edge. There is also a groove running around the centre of the upper face of the rim. A fragment of a Post Medieval clay pipe. Most of the bowl and the heel survive, but damaged and the stem is missing. The bowl is set at about 60 degrees to the stem and is swollen with convex sides becoming straight only at the top. The rim of the bowl is plain. The heel projects with a large flat, circular base. There is no makers mark visible on the heel but one side is missing to a break as is the stem, both locations used for marks. The bowl measures 25.9mm in length and 20.1mm in maximum diameter. A small fragment of a post medieval clay tobacco pipe, probably dating to the period c. AD 1680 to 1730. Only the heel and a very small part of the bowl survives. The heel is flat and oval shaped, and it is still possible to identify that the heel projects very slightly from the base of the bowl. The base of the heel is stamped with the inscription [C]HAR / WEBB / IN / CHARD. One side of the projecting heel also has a raised letter C. Part of the bowl of a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe with one profile, the heel and a very short section of the stem remaining. About 50% of the bowl has been lost to a ragged old break. There is a line of rouletting (small rectangles) just below the mouth of the bowl. The bowl is angled at about 45 degrees to the stem and swollen sided, although the complete form is unclear. Ceramic rim sherd from a greyware bowl of Roman date. The rim is expanded into a pointed oval shape with slight ridges at the top and outer side. A Roman ceramic tessera dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The object is sub-square is plan and rectangular in cross section. The fabric is relatively soft fired and pale pink/orange colour with a uniform colour throughout. Worn and abraded Roman tile sherd with very large flint inclusion dating to AD 40-410. The sherd is bright orange with a paler orange to grey core and c.10% or less fine sand temper. To one corner is an inclusion of flint 13.2 by 9/9mm across. The flint is mid grey with some evidence of fire daamge, presuambly from firing. The tile is 15. 6mm thick and weighs 27.1g.

The incomplete heel of a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe and vestigial bowl. The bowl has been largely lost to a ragged old break. The base of the heel is flat and broadly circular. It is stamped with the maker's mark, in this case the neat, seriffed incuse letters . IEF [./FRY . H/VNT]; thre is possibly part of a ropework border above. The fragment is 15.9mm by 16.7mm by 13.8mm and weighs 1.43g. The maker's name, Jeffry Hunt, is well documented in the local literature with examples known from Taunton (Leach 1984, 145-146; refs. 17, 18), dated c. AD 1650-1690.

Base sherd from a probably Medieval jug with internal speckled slightly olive green glaze of probably 14th to early 15th century date. Well fired pale orange-buff fabric with sparse very fine sand temper and occasional white, probably calcareous, inclusion up to 1mm. The base is flat with some glaze splashes and a slight projecting expanded rim level with the rest of the base. Above this base the sides are constricted before expanding out again. The piece is highly abraded and weighs 17.7g.

Fourteen pieces of glazed red eathenware vessels dating to the end of the 17th to first half of the 18th century all found together in an area of the garden with a wine bottle and pipes of similar date. Calcereous deposits suggest highly acidic environment with ash, ie dung heap or latrine. It has few inclusions visible at 30x magnification, less than 5% fine sand, and occasional rounded hard dark crystalline stone, possibly chert, up to 1.5mm. There is a relatively even coverage of dark olive mottled glaze on the outerside. It probably dates to c. AD 1200-1600. The breaks are highly abraded and it weighs 13.74g.
