Treasure case 2017 T1184: Disclaimed returned to finder Description: A medieval silver penny which has been modified to form an item of jewellery. The coin was pierced twice, at 11 and 1'oclock on the obverse, (5 and 7 o'clock on the reverse) with sub-circular piercings, one drilled from each side. One hole has cracked through to the edge. The other hole is worn into an oval shape. There are also traces of gilding around some of the letters on the reverse. Roman copper alloy vessel mount in the form of a janiform male bust. The mount is nearly complete with a break across the attachment loop at the base. The front is formed of a full bust with head and widened shoulders. A slot runs up through the head from the base and the back is formed of a second face which ends at the chin with no shoulders. A groove runs across the top of the head dividing the two faces. Both faces have moulded hair formed of regular semi-circular projections divided by grooves giving a scalloped appearence.
