A cast copper alloy spur ryal coin weight of James I, probably 3rd coinage (as indicated by the weight) and therefore dating from 1619-25. The weight is square, 16.6mm by 16.4mm by 3.1mm, and weighs 5.9g. On the front is a crown and to the left of this is a small stamp of another crown. The Roman numerals underneath read XVs. On the back is a central rose surrounded by a sun symbol, in turn surrounded by lions and fleurs-de-lis, all within a circular border. This coin weight would have weighed 6.4g when new (Withers and Withers 1995, p. 13).
