Mint of Rome. RIC III, p. 142, cf. no. 933 (struck AD 154-5). This is probably a Coin of British Association, a significant number of RIC 933 being found in the Sacred Spring at Bath (Walker 1988, p. 297 and pl. XXXV, no. 20 passim). This coin could also be RIC 908, 920 or 950.

A contemporary copy of a copper-alloy Roman as of Claudius I dating to the period AD 41 to 54 (Reece period 2). Minerva reverse type, uncertain mint. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. This example is a native copy.
