Copper alloy enamelled domed disc brooch . Missing pin, headloop and most of the outer margin, damaged catchplate. The pin was hinged between two close set lugs; an iron hinge bar survives and possibly the stub of an iron pin. At the centre a dot and circle are very worn, with no surviving trace of enamel. An inner ring of ten triangles contain red enamel and the outer ring of tweve contains blue. The junction with a flat margin is marked by a deep groove (and most of the margin has broken off from here). Above the hinge there is a trace of the stubs of a headloop but no other projecti…

Object type: BOW BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Copper alloy brooch fragment - Colchester derivative/Polden Hill type. Upper half only, missing half spring and pin; severe corrosion damage to much of the surface. The surviving spring had at least six turns in one wing; the axis bar is held by pierced circular plates on the ends of the wings as well as a double pierced centre lug which also took the chord. The wings are moulded: at the centre a beaded rib, then a broad concave moulding flanked by narrow grooves; beyond this there is a trace of another beaded rib and probably another concave moulding towards the ends. The bow is oval …

Object type: BOW BROOCH
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Copper alloy brooch, Colchester type. Missing part spring, pin, part catchplate; very corroded. The small flat wings appear undecorated though with a possible vertical rib.The bow is oval in section tapering to a point with a central decorated band - which has been badly affected by corrosion. The decoration is regular and angular within a sunken band and probably similar to King Harry Lane Grave 205 no.4; the profile is also similar with a slight kick at the top of bow and a moderate curve. The catchplate has traces of two rectilinear perforations. Surviving width (wings) 13mm, length 59mm.

Copper alloy brooch, penannular type with flattened coiled terminal(s). Missing pin and one terminal, bent and corroded. The ring is circular in section, diameter 3mm. The flattened end is coiled back into an untidy two-ring spiral. Original diameter would have been greater than 30mm. Similar to Colchester (1983) no.99, and probably early Roman (though the Fowler C type re-appears in the 4th century).

Possible copper alloy miniature axe, now very corroded and bent. Made from a flat 1.5mm thick piece rather than cast with rounded handle etc as common examples have, but it is typical in outline with the handle shaft projecting above the blade. Of the examples shown in Green 1976 pl.xxviii one from Woodeaton (k) is the most similar with the same flat construction. Original length c. 35mm, width at blade 17mm.
