Copper alloy brooch, Polden Hill variant type. Missing foot, most of catchplate, pin. Spring is held by rear hook plus 7mm wide folded over arm ends. Single groove at arm terminals. D-section bow with 2 sharp centre grooves. At the break the stub of the catchplate can be seen in a 1.5mm deep slot in the bow. Width 24mm, surv length 40mm. As West Stow (WSW 002) pub. No. 160

Copper alloy chatelaine type brooch fragment. Missing pin (which was hinged), catchplate, attachment bar and lugs, very damaged margins. Central knob on conical element with 6-petal motif - slight traces of pale enamel in petals. Basal line has blue/yellow/blue/blue/yellow/blue ovolo cells, discoloured triangles below. Arc around centre has similar alternation of colours with extra pair of blue and single yellow in centre; triangles again discoloured. All outer lugs lost. Surv height 30mm, surv width 28mm. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. This example could not be classified to a mint.
