Incomplete and distorted post-medieval gilt copper alloy circular mount, possibly from a mazer, the face depicting the quartered Stuart royal arms in counter-relief. Just under half is missing with an obliqe break which has removed the first quarter and parts of the second and third quarters, a thistle survives in relief to the sinister side of the shield. Specs of blue and red enamel survive on the arms and traces of black enamel on the circular outer field. There is no surviving evidence for the method of attachment. Diameter 29mm. Thickness 1.2mm. 1603 - 1688.

Straight attachment edge, with one small and one concave notch on either side of the plate before the C-sectioned transverse mount which has a rectangular recess on the inner edge, the other edge broken. Single rivet through the mount with rectangular rove on the reverse. Extant length 20mm. Width 14mm. See Egan and Pritchard (2002, 157, fig.103) for similar examples. Circa 14th century.
