Description: Silver strap-end with convex sides and zoomorphic terminal. The attachment end is now bent and incomplete, but curved traces of a fan-shaped motif survive. The main panel of decoration is broadly rectangular, and is filled with engraving around a reserved Trewhiddle-style animal in profile showing the left side of its body. The animal is perhaps best viewed with the terminal downwards. Medieval gilded silver finger-ring formed of a broad D-sectioned hoop, engraved on the outside with foliate scrolls. On the interior there is a French inscription, which reads + a + ma + vie + This may be taken to mean [He/She] has my life. Rings of this type with sentimental inscriptions were routinely exchanged as lovers' gifts in the Medieval Ages. This ring would originally have been enamelled, but the enamel is lost.
