Cast copper alloy Dragonesque brooch fragment, dating from the early Roman period, that is c. AD75-175. Only one of the head, some of the body and the pin survive. The head was elegantly formed with a finely moulded ear with grooves on one side. The eye was inlaid with bright blue enamel and there was probably enamel inlay in the body as well, but none of that survives. There was a small connecting rod between the head and the body, probably to strengthen the brooch. The pin was a strong metal rod that was wrapped around the neck of the dragonesque head.

Probably a very worn Roman copper-alloy folding knife handle dating from the 1st-4th century AD. The object is extremely worn with a much abraded and worn surface overall. None of the detailed mouldings survive on the surface. Comparing this fragment to other knife handles recorded on the database it is possible that the lower two thirds of the handle take the form of a stylised, three-dimensional feline figure, the body, neck and head of which together form an 'S' shape. The head faces forwards and would have had well moulded features, including an open mouth, pointed-oval eyes,…

A complete but bent copper alloy pin with a kite shaped head dating from the Early Medieval period, ca. AD900-1100. The pin appears complete, but bent and all surfaces and edges are very worn. The head is lozenge shaped with circular/lozenge shaped knops at the rounded corners, and is flat. It has a tiny circular hole through the head. No other decoration is visible due to wear. Both faces of the head are identical. There is a flat collar between the head and the shaft. The shaft is circular in section and tapers towards the tip. These pins are considered to be Irish in origin,…
