Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of post-medieval date. This is the front plate section but the loops and rear plate are missing. The attachment end would originally have been trilobate with a rivet hole in the centre but two of the three lobes have broken off. The plate narrows as it approaches the centre where it expands again to form a round central section, with a central, circular rivet hole. Both rivet holes originally had iron rivets, one of which remains in place. There are two arms, which would have originally been loops, with a rectangular pin recess. The surface is decorat…

An incomplete copper-alloy object, likely to be a mount, of medieval date. It is of unusual form with a square, domed section and an integral loop, much of which is missing due to old breaks. The square section has a raised, square central portion with iron staining. There is an incised line which divides it from the remnants of the loop. On the reverse is an integral spike of rectangular section. The precise purpose is uncertain but it may be a bar mount with integral loop.
