An incomplete copper-alloy book clasp of later medieval to early post-medieval date, (c.AD1450-1700).
Description:The clasp is flat and roughly rectangular narrowing from a wide flared attachment end with 6 points toward the hook end. The object is bent slightly across its length like from post depositional damage. At the hook end of the object there is a pair of rectangular lugs immediately behind the blunt concave hook. Another five rivet holes are punched through the slightly splayed fishtail terminal. No decoration is apparent and the hook end of the strap is folded over to the back, reducing the overall length by nearly half.
Measurements: length:47.35mm, width: 27.25mm (at the splayed end), 18.05mm (along the strap),thickness:1.96mm, weight: 17.33g.
Discussion:Similar book clasps are published by Brennan (2001, 26) from Greyfriars, Carmarthen dating to the late-medieval - early post-medieval date. Similar examples can be found on the PAS database such as KENT-880D9A, NMS-851544, LANCUM-6B86B3, LVPL-85D9A9

An incomplete post-medieval (c.AD 1500 - 1700) copper alloy saddle pommel.
Description: This remaining half of the pommel is convex and semi-circular in cross-section, any attachments are missing from the historic break. The surface design is linear with four doubled lines travelling from the centre of the dome to the rim. There is another doubled line across the break edge on the longer side and another across the perimeter. There is no decoration on the inner side of the object. There is also a small knop in the centre of the dome, halved by the split.
Measurements: Height:58.14mm, width:34.57mm, thickness:1.47mm, weight:19.02g.
Discussion: The pommel consisted of two U-shaped pieces soldered together. The halves would have been riveted to a wooden protrusion in the front of the saddle frame and would have been used to secure the reins.
