Object type: COIN
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Gwynedd

Small copper alloy coin, very badly corroded. Areas of pinkish patina suggest the presence of silver. No design or inscription visible on either side. Found not far from a Roman sestertius coin on a Roman era site. Judged purely on size and shape: possibly an antoninianus of mid third to mid fourth century date.

A polished stone axe, probably of Graig Lwyd stone. It is sub-rectangular in plan with an asymmetrical blade. The blade is rounded in plan, very finely polished and quite sharp but with several small scars along the edge as well as on the faces of the blade. The edges of the axe are generally parallel but converge towards the butt end. A short length of one edge near the blade appears to exhibit the remnants of a slight facet. The butt is flat. There is evidence that the axe was finely polished all over but there is considerable surface damage particularly at the butt end. A fine …

A very badly abraded copper alloy disc. Obverse shows the very faint outline of a bust facing right; possibly a woman. A small device (fleur de lis?) is visible above the head and divides an inscription which encircles the bust. It is possible that the first letters to the right of the device are: C H A S The reverse shows what may be a tree standing left, with vegetation or a landscape scene to the right, all encircled by what appears to be an inscription. This is mostly illegible though the first four letters may be: G R A N There is an exergue which appears to contain an inscript…
