An incomplete copper alloy strip-bow hinged brooch, probably dating to c. AD 75-100. Although mis-shapen the brooch survives largely complete, missing only its pin. The flat head is rolled backwards to form the tabbed wings, with a central slot cut to accomodate a hinged pin; the axis bar is lost. The brooch narrows into the bow, which has a rectangular cross section and is decorated with crudely incised grooves from where it tapers into a pointed foot. A large hooked catchplate expands from the reverse of the foot. Date: Roman Dimensions: 53.1mm x 14.1mm x 12.3mm. Weight: 3.21g.
