Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy white-metal coated spoon, dating to the Roman period. The bowl is damaged but much survives. Although incomplete, the bowl would have been piriform or pear-shaped, and is offset, with an elaborated junction which is C-shaped when viewed in profile. Similar to database records WMID-F70F42, BH-F10251, and NARC-9B1532 and to silver examples in the Hoxne Hoard of coins and metalwork buried in the 5th century, however pear-shaped bowls had appeared by the first half of the second century (Crummy 1983, p.69). Suggested date: AD 150-409.
