Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire

An incomplete copper-alloy buckle plate, probably dating to the Medieval period. The buckle plate is formed from a single sheet of copper alloy which has been folded in half, creating a loop for the buckle strap bar. The front plate is wider than the reverse plate. There are three rivet holes to secure the plate to a leather strap, but all the rivets are missing. An additional rivet, large and of rolled form, may be a repair and is similar to repairs seen in medieval vessels. There is no deocration on theplate. Suggested date AD 1100-1500.
