An incomplete, bent cast copper-alloy pen of uncertain date, probably early post-medieval (c. 16th century, or slightly earlier). Its truncated shaft is missing its terminal but retains part of a central panel decorated with four longitudinal rows of linked lozengiform facets, with hollows between. Below is a plain, narrow section, between the lozengiform decoration on the shaft and the lanceolate end. There is a bevelled groove along each side of the lanceolate area, creating four reservoirs to hold the ink. The lanceolate end is 26 mm in length, and 5 mm at i…

An incomplete copper-alloy lid from a set of nested cup weights. The lid is hinged and would originally have been attached to the outer case of the set, and it retains its hinge-lug, though this is now broken through. Three sub-rectangular struts are situated on the upper side of the lid: two arranged in a V shape emerging from one side and a single in between the V from the other side, this latter now truncated. The single strut is attached with two rivets - visible on the reverse of the lid - whilst the V shape is formed of two struts each with a single rivet. These st…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy dress fastener of post-medieval date (c. 17th century). It has broken at the attachment end such that it cannot be established whether this is a loop or hook part of the two-part fastener. In addition to the break the object has been bent slightly at that end. The object is flat and largely sub-oval, with three integral knops; one at the centre of each side, and one at the centre of the narrower end of the plate. The latter is broken through while the others survive intact; they are perforated and have a small knop on their outer edge. The front of the…

A post-medieval copper-alloy rose farthing of Charles I (AD 1625-1649), rose farthing type 2, initial mark crescent, AD 1636-1644, North 2291. This coin has suffered a loss at its circumference. It has also been perforated with an irregular hole towards the circumference. This does not appear to be a deliberate attempt to convert this coin into a jewellery item.
