A complete cast copper-alloy button of post-medieval (17th-century) date. The button is circular, of a convex domed form, with an integral loop emerging centrally on its lower surface. The loop is D-shaped, with a slightly off-centre circular perforation (Dia.: 3.2mm). The upper surface of the button is decorated with a punched foliate/floral design. The foliate decoration comprises a central stem with a curving stem (?leaf) either side. The central stem terminates in a ?flower with a lobe above formed of two punched crescents. A post-medieval cast copper-alloy button with integral shank and incised design of a flower on the front. The button is circular. It has a shallow convex front and shallow concave back with a lipped border around the back. The front has a design of a twelve lobed flower around central pellet with small punch marks around its circumference. The flower is set within a grooved border towards the circumference. The back has a rectangular integral shank running across half of the width at the centre. The shank is a tab; it would have had a rounded top; the base of a circular hole which wa…

A copper-alloy post-medieval hexagonal button with flat top and faceted sides. The top is decorated with a central ring-and-dot motif from which radiate six pairs of grooves which create bars along the sides of each facet. Similar pairs of grooves set at right angles to these create bars that form an 'inner circle'. Around the basal edge of the button is a row of C-shaped punches. Between the inner circles and the basal edge are indistinct scrolled motifs in each field. A central integral rectangular shank has been broken through at the drilled hole as a result of old damage. The butt…

A damaged, now incomplete, post-medieval lead-alloy button. The button has a slightly convex front with a moulded design of a sunken six petalled flower with raised lines between each petal that emerge from a central rosette. There is a line border around each sunken petal in low relief. The edge is shaped to the curved edges of the petals, though with alternating lines and double pellets that protrude. The back is flat, though raised at its circular centre which corresponds with the sunken petals. At the centre is a raised line from which two stubs emerge to have formed a simple loop…

A probable button formed from a pair of fused medieval late Tournai copper-alloy jettons of Crown type, AE MARIA GRACIA PL legend, c. AD 1415-1497, cf. Mitchiner 663ff. The pair of jettons are fused together with some sort of material between them. The edges have been curved down giving a dished shape with convex front and concave reverse. The centre is almost flat but the edge curves down 45 degrees with clear evidence of deliberate shaping in the bevelled rim of the upper jetton. The lower rim is less bevelled as the curve is more upright at this point but it continues the curve …
