Cast copper alloy weight for a half Ryal (Rose Noble). The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is of the king with sword and square topped shield standing in a ship with rectangular bow and stern and a rose on the side of the ship. It is 14.2mm in diameter, 3.2mm thick and weighs 3.55 grams, 54.8 grains. A full weight half ryal would have weighed 60 grains (Withers and Withers 1995, 68) but weights were normally made to the legal minimum weight which was slightly less and can lose weight through corrosion processes, the edges of this example…

A medieval sheet copper-alloy domed thimble with sloping sides, now squashed. There are multiple circular drilled or punched pits in slightly irregular concentric circles on the sides and top. Just above the base, below the pits, is an incised line. The thimble is 25.15mm long and 17.2mm wide in its squashed state; it weighs 5.15g, but this weight included mud. The thimble is probably late medieval in date (AD 1400-1500). It was probably used for light duty sewing (Egan 1998, 265).

It is 24.9mm long, 20.3mm wide and 2.2mm thick, it weighs 3.0 grams. It is likely that simple forms like this were in use by c.1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1993:22, 82-3, cf no.332), and they continued into the 17th century.

A corroded, but complete shield-shaped cast copper-alloy harness pendant bearing a zoomorphic device: a peacock in his pride. The object is of the 'heater' shield shape, that is, with a flat top, and sides which curve steeply to a point. From the top edge a suspension loop protrudes centrally at ninety degrees to the pendant; it is angled forwards in an oval pierced loop above a low double transverse ridge on the upper surface. The pendant's upper surface features moulded decoration in low relief the form of a peacock with tail fanned out behind them, with tail below, legs splay…

A complete sheet copper-alloy hilt-plate from a medieval whittle-tang knife. The object is an elongated trapezoidal shape. It is slightly convex in profile and bent down at the narrow end. It has a broadly trapezoidal perforation through the lower surface, nearer the wide end. The object is corroded with a dark-green patina where it survives. No decoration is discernible. Such hilt-plates tend to be given a 15th-century date, although they could be earlier.

A corroded and abraded cast copper-alloy foot from a later medieval to early post-medieval cooking vessel. The object is prominently splayed at the base in a simple, out-turned, pad-like foot of trapezoidal cross-section, now broken to one side with this part missing. The base is slightly concave. The front of the foot is decorated with a prominently moulded central rib: any further elaboration has been obscured by old damage. The break is irregular. The flat back and base make an obtuse angle of about 110 degrees. As noted, the object has become corroded post-deposition, and is large…

This consists of an olive/honey glaze on a red/brown clay with reduced grey centre visible at the break at the corner. The token has a raised design of five straight lines radiating from a pellet at the centre to the raised edge on both sides. Around a third of the token has been lost to an old break to one side. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date.

Treasure number 2014 T448: Disclaimed, returned to landowner Description: A late medieval silver-gilt pendant in the form of a crucifix. The cross is fragmentary, with breakages on the top right and left hand side. The cross is plain, bevelled on the side arms giving them a triangular cross-section, and bevelled on the sides of the main upright giving it a trapezoidal cross-section. . Comparable examples suggest that the figure of Christ is now missing from the front of the object. An absence of gilding on the upright below the side arms suggests that his body would have been moun…
