Post-medieval cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle frame with rectangular loops, with the loop of the broken pin in situ around the pin bar. The pin has been broken just beyond the loop. The loops are trapezoidal in cross section. The outer edges of both loops are straight other than a central rectangular projecting lobe. There is an incised line running down the centre of each projection acting as a pin rest. There are smaller projecting knops at the ends of the narrowed strap bar. The frame is 40.5mm long, 25.3mm wide and 3.7mm thick; it weighs 9.08g. Whitehead (2003: 79) illustra…

A copper-alloy late medieval annular buckle frame with central strap bar. The outer face of one side is decorated with incised grooves, forming lobes in between. The other loop has two constrictions on the outer edge, with a lobe at either side, the area between containing multiple transverse grooves. The front is bevelled internally and externally while the back is flat. The frame measures 31.2mm long, 27.3mm wide and 3.2mm; it weighs 7.24 grams. Medieval or post-medieval plain cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle frame. The frame has two oval loops with bevelled outer and inner sides on the front; the back appears flat. The strap bar is narrowed with a triangular cross-section. The pin is missing but dark orange corrosion product at the pin bar shows that it would have been of iron. It is 24.9mm long, 20.3mm wide and 2.2mm thick, it weighs 3.0 grams. It is likely that simple forms like this were in use by c.1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1993:22, 82-3, cf no.332), and they continued into the 17th century.

The frame is oval with an offset and narrowed strap bar and offset outer edge recessed in the centre to take a sheet roller which survives in place. The outer edge has knops flanking the recessed centre. The upper and lower sides have a convex outer face. The frame is 19.5mm long, 4.75mm thick and 24.05mm wide and weighs 4.53 grams. Egan (2007, 95) illustrates a very similar example, no.590. He suggests (ibid:86) this type (Meols Type 11) dates to the medieval period (c.1250-1400 AD).

A post-medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle, incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. The frame is formed of two oval loops with a central narrowed bar of trapezoidal cross-section. The frame is 'D' shaped in section with a flat reverse and rounded front. There are projecting circular knops at the outer corners of the frame on both loops and rounded knops at the top and bottom of the bar. The pin is missing. It measures 33.9 mm long, 20.6 mm wide and 3.1 mm thick. It weighs 4.73 g. A similar buckle is illustrated in Whitehead (2003; 63) number 382 which he dates to…

An broken and incomplete cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame of early post-medieval date. The frame was formed of two conjoined ovals such that the sides incurve slightly; one of the loops has been lost due to old damage at its junction with the pin bar. The frame is shallowly bevelled externally on the upper surface; the lower surface is flat. The pin bar has a trapezoidal cross-section. It is extended at each end in a rounded knop. The pin is missing. The buckle frame has corroded to a variable red/brown colour with some patches of dark-green patina surviving in a few places.

An incomplete medieval cast copper-alloy single looped buckle, missing both pin bar and pin. The frame is oval and angled with a possible central pin rest. The pin bar has been lost in its entireity, with the side of the buckle twisted up at one end where the pin bar would have emerged; it is assumed that the pin bar would have been off set and narrowed. The outer edge is expanded both in width and thickness. The frame has a variable mid-green colour and would appear to be plain.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame, missing most of one of its loops as well as its pin. The pin bar extends beyond the edges in rounded lobes. The reverse and upper surfaces are flat, and the frame bevelled internally and externally on the upper surface. This latter is decorated on each outer edge by a rosette probably with three outer petals and ?two inner. Traces of orange corrosion product around the pin bar's centre and on the upper surface of the rosette confirms that the pin was made of iron. The buckle has a drak-green patina where corrosi…

A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval plain double-looped buckle frame. The frame is missing one of its loops after an old break at the pin bar; only vestiges of the loop survive. The surviving loop is trapezoidal. There is a small knopped protrusion at each end of the pin bar. The pin is missing, but traces of orange/brown corrosion product at the pin bar and the centre of the outer edge suggest that it would have been made of iron. The frame is very corroded and pitted with a dark-green patina only surviving in places. For similar examples see Whitehead (2003, 82…

A cast copper-alloy double-looped medieval annular buckle frame with two oblique projections on the same outer edge. The buckle is incomplete in so far as the pin is missing. The lower surface is flat and undecorated while the upper surface features moulded decoration; the frame is D-shaped in cross-section. The decoration on the frame is cabled, with transverse grooves creating ridges. The tips of the projections are recessed compared to those elements of the projections at the junction with the frame. The buckle is bent downwards at the outer edge, probably as much a product of use …

The foliate decoration comprises a central stem with a curving stem (?leaf) either side. The central stem terminates in a ?flower with a lobe above formed of two punched crescents. This latter contains a punched ring-and-dot motif; b…

A copper-alloy post-medieval hexagonal button with flat top and faceted sides. The top is decorated with a central ring-and-dot motif from which radiate six pairs of grooves which create bars along the sides of each facet. Similar pairs of grooves set at right angles to these create bars that form an 'inner circle'. Around the basal edge of the button is a row of C-shaped punches. Between the inner circles and the basal edge are indistinct scrolled motifs in each field. A central integral rectangular shank has been broken through at the drilled hole as a result of old damage. The butt…
