Cast copper alloy weight for a half Ryal (Rose Noble). The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is of the king with sword and square topped shield standing in a ship with rectangular bow and stern and a rose on the side of the ship. It is 14.2mm in diameter, 3.2mm thick and weighs 3.55 grams, 54.8 grains. The top left corner of the upper surface is counter stamped with a crowned 'C'. The stamp is typical of square coin weights of Charles I (Withers and Withers 1995, 67). These weights were replaced by round ones with similar designs post 1632 (Withers and Withers 1995, 38). The coin bears the common countermark of a stamped crowned I in the top left corner of the reverse. The obverse design has been struck off centre. The coin weight measures 16mm by 16mm, 3-4mm thick and weighs 5.64 grams (87.0 grains); it is 11-12% light.
