Cast copper alloy weight for a half Ryal (Rose Noble). The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is of the king with sword and square topped shield standing in a ship with rectangular bow and stern and a rose on the side of the ship. It is 14.2mm in diameter, 3.2mm thick and weighs 3.55 grams, 54.8 grains. A full weight half ryal would have weighed 60 grains (Withers and Withers 1995, 68) but weights were normally made to the legal minimum weight which was slightly less and can lose weight through corrosion processes, the edges of this example…

The ring has fairly regularly spaced stamped triangular pits arranged in three to four rows around the sides. There is no evidence of a makers mark but it is badly corroded. A medieval sheet copper-alloy domed thimble with sloping sides, now squashed. There are multiple circular drilled or punched pits in slightly irregular concentric circles on the sides and top. Just above the base, below the pits, is an incised line. The thimble is 25.15mm long and 17.2mm wide in its squashed state; it weighs 5.15g, but this weight included mud. The thimble is probably late medieval in date (AD 1400-1500). It was probably used for light duty sewing (Egan 1998, 265).

A copper-alloy late medieval annular buckle frame with central strap bar. The outer face of one side is decorated with incised grooves, forming lobes in between. The other loop has two constrictions on the outer edge, with a lobe at either side, the area between containing multiple transverse grooves. The front is bevelled internally and externally while the back is flat. The frame measures 31.2mm long, 27.3mm wide and 3.2mm; it weighs 7.24 grams. A similar buckle is illustrated by Whitehead (2003, 46), no.266, and is dated to c.AD 1400-1500.

Medieval or post-medieval plain cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle frame. The frame has two oval loops with bevelled outer and inner sides on the front; the back appears flat. The strap bar is narrowed with a triangular cross-section. The pin is missing but dark orange corrosion product at the pin bar shows that it would have been of iron. It is 24.9mm long, 20.3mm wide and 2.2mm thick, it weighs 3.0 grams. It is likely that simple forms like this were in use by c.1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1993:22, 82-3, cf no.332), and they continued into the 17th century.

The frame is oval with an offset and narrowed strap bar and offset outer edge recessed in the centre to take a sheet roller which survives in place. The outer edge has knops flanking the recessed centre. The upper and lower sides have a convex outer face. The frame is 19.5mm long, 4.75mm thick and 24.05mm wide and weighs 4.53 grams. Egan (2007, 95) illustrates a very similar example, no.590. He suggests (ibid:86) this type (Meols Type 11) dates to the medieval period (c.1250-1400 AD).

A copper-alloy mount of post-medieval date. The mount is of flat elaborate quatrefoil form with lobes that protrude at the angles. A pair of integral pointed lugs curve broadly in the same direction on the lower surface. The upper surface is seemingly undecorated, though has a polished quality absent on the lower surface. This method of attachment using integral lugs is characteristic of the 17th century. An example of this date, similar in form to this object, can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 34; ref. 278). The object has a general dark-green patina.

A copper-alloy spur rowel in the shape of a five-pointed star. The arms are flattened oval in cross-section. There is central circular perforation through the body of the rowel through which the rivet attaching it to the spur would have travelled (Dia.: 3.3mm). Small grooves between the points around the hole help delineate them. The artefact is of a red-brown metal small patches of dark-yellow corrosion product. A post-medieval copper-alloy (latten) spoon, incomplete having lost its knop to old damage. The bowl is oval, generally rounded, but slightly more steeply at the stem end. There is a maker's mark of a fleur-de-lis stamped on the front of the bowl near the stem. The stem is flat and connected straight to the edge of the bowl with no strengthening tail on the back. It is rectangular with rounded corners in cross-section. The bowl is 64.5mm long, 46.3mm wide and 13.4mm max. deep. A broken and incomplete medieval cast copper-alloy buckle frame missing its plate, pin and much of its frame. The frame was oval before old breaks halfway along one side and just before the outer edge respectively. The outer edge is offset and recessed in the centre to take a sheet roller with central low groove which survives in place. The outer edge has large rounded knops flanking the recessed centre. Egan (2007, 86) suggests that this type (Meols Type 11) dates to the medieval period (c. AD 1250-1400).
