A corroded, but complete shield-shaped cast copper-alloy harness pendant bearing a zoomorphic device: a peacock in his pride. The object is of the 'heater' shield shape, that is, with a flat top, and sides which curve steeply to a point. From the top edge a suspension loop protrudes centrally at ninety degrees to the pendant; it is angled forwards in an oval pierced loop above a low double transverse ridge on the upper surface. The pendant's upper surface features moulded decoration in low relief the form of a peacock with tail fanned out behind them, with tail below, legs splay…

The harness pendant suspension mount is essentially an extended bar mount of largely trapezoidal cross-section. Its back is flat. At each end is a perforated, moulded round terminal with protruding knop on the outer edge. Both terminals have been bent backwards in the past, one more s…

A complete harness pendant set of medieval date, about AD 1100-1300. The pendant is broadly circular, with a convex front with traces of gilding. The reverse is hollow. A long integral attachment loop projects upwards at the apex; it is at right angles to the pendant. There is a transverse ridge on the front at the junction of loop and plate. The pendant suspension mount is circular, convex at the front and was also gilded. A sub-rectangular tab projecting downwards has a slot in it and is bent back on itself to form a double hinge lug supporting the iron axis bar. The tab appears to…
