Complete copper alloy and enamel brooch, of Mackreth type CD H 7.b3 (Bow and Fantail), of the Roman period, dated to 50 - 150 AD. The head is expanded from the top of the bow, forming wings which hold the pin hinge within a cylinder. A loop extends from the top of the head: the loop has a slightly pointed apex and is pieced with a revetted hole (3mm). The top inside edge of the hole appears worn. The pin has a wide section forming a loop through which it is hinged to the brooch and the shank is bent in a curve away from the reverse of the brooch. The bow is rectangular in section,…
