Gold posy ring. A flat band, dented, the exterior with floral decoration incorporating two birds flanking a heart, with traces of white enamel for the birds, and white and green for the floral ornament. The inscription inside in lower case retains much of its original black enamel and reads: 'This and I until I dye', with partly legible unidentified maker mark, possibly SY. The motif and birds flanking a heart was popular in the 18th century, and in the absence of an identifiable maker's mark there is no evidence to date this ring pre-1708.

A near complete cast copper alloy composite ring-headed linch pin terminal of probable later Iron Age or early Roman date 100 BC - 120 AD. The style of the artefact would suggest a pre Roman date 100 BC - 80AD. The terminal is complete, although abraded and waisted by corrosion and movement in the ploughsoil. Linch pins are composite; in this example the iron pin and foot are both missing; what survives is the decorated socketed terminal and a small section of the iron pin. The terminal is irregular in plan, profile and section. The upper part consists of an irregular circlet with an …

An incomplete fragment from a cast copper-alloy linch pin terminal of later Iron Age or Native Roman date, c.100BC- AD 100. The artefact is most probably the foot terminal of a linch pin and is 'button-like' in form being circular in plan and D shaped in cross section. The front face is undecorated and is broadly circular in plan. It has a wide raised circumferential rib which extends around the external edge. Within the border is a flat panel; this is coated in places with a surface corrosion but is most likely uninscribed. There is also no evidence of a keyed surface and so i…

Cast copper alloy fragment from a crescentic Roman linch pin. The fragment is broadly sub-triangular in shape with a curved C shape cross section and a D shaped profile. It is incomplete with approximately 1/3 surviving. Originally it was crescentic in shape. The breaks are relatively worn and abraded suggesting old damage. The linch pin cover has also been crushed in the soil which has distorted the shape. The upper face is decorated with a series of incised curved lines, the area within these is slight faceted. The surviving terminal is slightly thickened. The reverse face is hollow,…

A medieval silver annular brooch. The frame is formed from silver wire, half of which is round in section, while the other half has been formed into square wire, twisted to give the appearance of cabling, with punched decoration running along the twists. There is a constriction for the pin (now missing), at which point the brooch is broken, probably at the point of the original soldering. The brooch is otherwise in good condition. The brooch dates to the 13th-14th century. This is a well-known type of medieval brooch. See SUSS-7AC4AA; HAMP-999097 and DOR-715865 for similar examples. …
