A heavily worn silver half groat of Charles I (1625-1649) struck at the tower mint. There initial marks are not preserved, however, the reverse depicts a rounded shield within an inner ring - which corresponds with Group D coins North 2258 dated between 1639-1649.
The coin has been pierced by a oval hole driven from the obverse through to the reverse - the hole is positioned at 3 o'clock on the obverse which has destroyed the value mark but avoided the bust of the king
