An irregular incomplete cast lead alloy vessel repair (pot mend) of probable Roman date (50-400). In plan the repair is broadly oval in shape and irregular in cross section; originally it would have been H shaped but it has been snapped across the mid-point and only a small projecting nub survives. These types of mend were used during many different periods but this example has been found with other datable Roman finds The vessel repair measures 24mm length, and is 20mm wide

An irregular cast lead alloy vessel repair (pot mend) of probable Roman (50-400) or medieval date (1200-1400). In plan the repair is irregular one face is oval whilst the opposing one is a irregular rectangle. The profile is an abraded H shaped cross section. A small sherd of the original vessel is present - it is a soft friable oxidised red coloured vessel with some shell-like tempering. From the thickness of the sherd and mend it is likely a repair from a fineware vessel. These types of mend were used during many different periods but this example has been found with other datable R…

A small fragment of a cast copper alloy handle from a copper alloy vessel, probably a skillet, of later medieval or early post medieval date (1300 - 1600). The handle is incomplete being broken at both ends. It is broadly sub-rectangular in plan with a slightly tapering section; it is broadly D shaped in cross section. The outer edge / upper part of the handle is decorated with a series of heavily worn ring and dot motifs (a small hollow within two concentric circles); these two (one complete, the other partial) are evenly spaced. The handle is a mid green colour with an even patina. …

A large highly decorated near complete lid most probably from a cistern of post medieval date 1650-1850. The fragment is broken into four large parts and was originally identified as a potential Roman mortaria fragment. However, more detailed research has idfentified the fabric as a hard fired earthenware which has well sorted small black coal measure grits within the mica rich matrix. This is best compared with the fabric of 18th century staffordshire slipwares. The surface of all the sherds is laminating and the original decoration scheme applied to the exterior faces is somewhat lo…

Two sherds of mid grey coloured ceramic pottery - both are from the base of a vessel, Neither of the sherds conjoin and it is likely that the body sherd is from a different vessels All are a mid - dark grey colour . None are diagnostic and the form / shape cannot be identified. The best identification is a mid grey coloured sandy coarseware pottery of mid Roman date (AD 80 - 350) Sherd 1: 39.5mm width, 41.7mm length, 9.8mm thick across the base and 8.4mm across the side wall - it weighs 19.38 grams Sherd 2: 28.5mm width, 26.4mm length, height 25.7mm, 7.9mm thick across the base …

The fabric colour is a uniform reduced mid grey colour. The diameter of the rim cannot be suggested due to the small size of the sherd. Two rim sherds from similar wheel thrown ceramic vessels of Roman dating (2nd to 4th Centuries AD). Sherd 1 measures: 61.7mm width and 24.7mm length, it is 23.1mm high and 9.1mm thick at the rim, 4.8mm tick across the body. It weighs: 13.12 grams. A sherd from the base of a wheel thrown Samian ceramic vessel / plate of Roman dating. The sherd is from the side of a shallow bowl and is heavily abraded. The reverse has an applied foot ring attached with a projected diameter of 12cm. The vessel has much worn oxidised fabric with a red slip. This fabric type is consistent with an imported fine ware from Gaul possibly La Grauf. The form of the sherd is suggestive of a small plate similar to Dragondorf form 15 or 17 dating from the earlier period (c. AD 50-200).
