An incomplete cast copper alloy, single loop buckle cast with an integral plate, dating from the medieval period c. AD 1250 - 1400. Only the plate remains as the frame of the buckle is lost due to old damage. In form the buckle is very small and would originally have had an oval frame. The plate is broadly rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross ection. It is decorated with a series of three bosses seperated by double transverse ribs. Two of these bosses are pierece by iron headed rivets that would have attached the plate to the leather strap. There is no evidence of gilding, athoug…

A sheet metal buckle plate and associated buckle pin of medieval date (1250-1400). The buckle frame is broken and lost. The strap plate is formed from a rectangular sheet of copper alloy which is folded around the bar, it has a circular hole cut from the centre to allow the pin to fit. The pin is present and formed from a length of copper alloy wire. The upper and lower faces of the plate are not decorated although it is possible that they were originally tinned. A cast copper alloy drilled buckle of later post med date 1600-1800. The frame is a rectangular shape in plan and slightly bowed in cross section. The mid-point of the frame is drilled to hold an iron axis bar and a cast copper alloy chape and pin. The frame is undecorated and is a mid green grey colour well formed surface patina. It measures: 20.2mm, length, 15.8mm width 3.4mm thick. and weighs 2.04 grams
