Cast copper alloy terret of knobbed type of later Roman date. The terret is sub oval (D shaped) in plan with an irregular sub-oval (D shaped) bow that has a flattened ovoid cross section. Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy asymmetrical buckle of probably post-medieval date (1550-1750). The buckle frame is complete - in plan it is sub-triangular (rounded heart shaped) with a slight integral cast offset central bar to which a pin is attached. The pin is lost but would have been formed from a length of iron wrapped around the mid-point of the central bar. The mid-point of the broad end of the buckle extends with a small triangular projection - this is most likely to have acted as a pin rest. There are no areas of decoration present and the buckle is relatively plain. The upper face may ha…

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An irregular fragment from the bezel and shoulder of a gem set (intaglio) finger-ring; it is irregular in profile, broadly sub-rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section. The fragment has been distorted by movement in the soil; both breaks are relatively worn. The break across the bevel of the ring reveals the cross section of the gem (lost) which has a flat base and slightly curved (or dished) sides. From what remains of the setting it is suggested that the shape of the gem, intaglio or stone was oval in plan. The outer edges of the stone setting are feathered suggesting tha…
