A trade token on an issuer whose details are no longer visible on the token due to wear and corrosion. There is an incomplete mid green patina on the token. An unidentified 17th century trade token. Trade tokens were issued between 1648 and 1672 at a time when there was little low denomination coinage being issued by the crown. As a result traders and business proprietors began issuing tokens as an alternate coinage with equivalent denominations of a farthing, half penny or penny. A probable knapped flint denticulate produced from a secondary flake. The dorsal surface has four slender vertical scars with an obliquely angled distal end, this end is covered with heavy patination. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion, bulbar scars, and concentric ripples. One lateral edge has fine denticulates which have been re-touched from the dorsal surface. The flint is a dark orange colour. The knife measures 49.33mm long, 21.48mm wide and 5.4mm thick. It weighs 6.1g. An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), c.f. Mackreth 2011, 4.d. Plate 47. A complete cast copper alloy double looped sub-oval buckle. The buckle frame, in plan, is a pointed oval, with the apex of the loops forming a triangle on the exterior edge, and a convex edge on the interior. The strap bar is narrowed and trapezoidal in section. The terminal of the strap bar has moulded decoration in the form of a sub-lozenge. A copper alloy foot from a larger object, possibly a vessel or box. The foot is in the form of a paw with four toes. The ankle is narrowed and is oval in section. Above the ankle the leg is a flat platform with a central circular indention which may be part of the fixing point onto the vessel. The underside and reverse of the foot and ankle it is concave. A possible uniface lead token: The token is sub-circular in plan. The token carries a design of a central annulet with a + within. This motif is within a hexagon. The reverse is undecorated. The surface has an oxidised surface. The token measures 37.65mm diameter, 4.66mm thick and weighs 33.6g. Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely.
