Powder-blue opaque possible glass bead fragment. A large gadrooned or vertically ribbed melon bead with a central moulded aperture of diameter in excess of 11mm, and with a flat rim at either side. This oversized stringing hole would have complicated the stringing of this object with other beads of more conventional sizes. A function as a toggle to fasten a belt or girdle might also be entertained - the aperture is over-sized for this to have been an early spindle whorl. The finder kindly suggests an Anglo-Saxon date.
