Object type: COIN
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lincolnshire

White metal coin. A greyish scyphate flan with a plain obverse and a concave reverse, with extensive traces of reddish surface plating or gilding on both sides. The gilding of copper alloy flans is more familiar to this reporter, and the white metal core may suggest this to be one of the imitations of ancient coins which are intermittently reported from north-eastern Lincolnshire. The metal is probably a lead alloy. Suggested date: Modern, 1990-2010. Obverse description: Plain, with greater loss of coating. Reverse description: Celticised horse right, with fewer comma-shaped com…

Object type: TOY
Broad period: MODERN
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead alloy toy. Solid cast semi-flat toy farm animal, representing a large quadruped, probably a horse, naturalistically modelled at a scale of c.1:40, though now lacking its legs and head. Extensive traces of black paint remain. The semi-flat form of toy figures was characteristic of Continental, particularly German, manufacture before the First World War. The heyday of the toy farm, however, was between the Wars, and the survival of paint may suggest a more recent, earlier 20th-century, date. Suggested date: Modern, 1930-1939. Height: 16mm, Length: 29.9mm, Thickness: 6.0mm, Weigh…

Object type: SEAL
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead seal. Kosher meat seal. Cast disc with a slot in one edge and a bifurcated slot in the opposite edge, to serve as a drawstring attachment. One side bears the stamped motif of a Star of David [or Solomon]. The other bears the numeral 350 in modern style. The metal retains its grey tint, suggesting a recent [20th-century] date. These seals confirmed that meat had been slaughtered according to rabbinical regulation. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950. Diameter: 15.2mm, Thickness (at rim): 4.5mm, Weight: 2.71gms

Lead weight. Cast cylindrical weight or flywheel with one flat and one bevelled face with a countersunk centre. A central aperture of diameter 6mm bears fine machine cut screw thread. The metal retains a grey tint; circumferential lines on the outer edge may suggest the object rotated when in use. Presumably a machinery fitting. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950. Diameter: 25.8mm, Thickness: 11.0mm, Weight: 51.36gms
