Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy candle holder fragment. A cast vase-shaped object with slightly protruding flat-topped rim, a slightly constricted neck, and a circumferential rib around its widest part. Frayed and broken on the lower part of the body. The mouth has an aperture of diameter 19mm, and would receive the end of a candle or rush dip. The use of specialised forms of shot was particularly characteristic of the 17th century. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1700.

County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy probable door fitting. Circular plate with six drilled fixing holes of diameter 3mm set equidistantly around a central square aperture of length and width c.10mm. Slightly bowed when viewed in profile. The aperture might suggest a bolt or bar passed through the object, perhaps attached to a door handle. Iron possible wedge. A rectangular section tapered bar of triangular profile, with its narrow end worn at a slight angle. The considerable mass may suggest good survival of a metal core to the object, despite surface corrosion. Copper alloy buckle plate, kindly identified by Rob Webley, correcting an initial identification as a pendent mount by this reporter. Plate made of folded and slotted sheet metal. At one end is an oval plate with central drilled hole of diameter c.3mm. Above this, a pelta-shaped plate bears a pair of domed rivets of head diameter c.3mm and length 5mm which pass through it to meet the other, trapezoid, end. Copper alloy harness pendant. Cast circular plate with an off-centre concavo-convex boss which projects from a radially incised and bordered plate; the decorative scoring is slightly haphazard in its execution. An integrally cast oval suspension loop at right angles to the display plane, with drilled aperture, retains a short [10mm] axis bar with burred ends which hold it within a folded and slotted pendant hanger with a trapezoid terminal with a short tapered bent spike of length 7mm behind it. County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Pale grey flint polished knife fragment. A large flake from a bifacially polished possibly discoid or lunate knife, bearing a high polish covering one side, and the cutting edge and adjacent polished surface on the other, now disrupted by broad flakes which were apparently removed by unidirectional hard hammer working. The fine finish has been achieved despite the mediocre quality of a variegated flint, probably collected from the Wolds of Lincolnshire or East Yorkshire. The possibly deliberate damage to one side of the knife is an unusual feature. Suggested date: Late Neolithic, 2700…

Flint debitage. Flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with one large flake struck from the ventral surface. The edge is 'nibbled' by fortuitous light impact damage.
