Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete cast copper alloy Iron Age or Roman mount dating to the period c. 200BC - AD 100. The object is possibly a decorative shield clip, although it has also been suggested that this type of mount derives from a bucket, tankard or vessel. The mount consists of a hollow tubular sheet of copper alloy decorated with three raised ribs with troughs in between similiar in design to so-called 'lipped terrets' of Late Iron Age date. For similar examples see WILT-628131, LANCUM-48E298 and SWYOR-277D96.
