A fragment of a cast copper alloy finger ring.The bezel and shoulders only survive. The bezel is a raised, intaglio-style oval with an incised inscription of three letters, probably L R V. The shoulders are decorated with incised lines. The band is broad and flat. Roger Tomlin suggests the following with regard to the inscription:

Late Saxon cast, copper alloy stirrup terminal. Of zoomorphic design, this terminal would have completely enclosed the diagonal arms at the lower part of a sturrup. It is in the form of a crested animal head which is curled around so that it faces "up the stirrup". There are two small. circular apertures between the underside of the heaed and the body of the terminal. At the top are two raised collars.
