Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Calderdale
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A probable rock crystal artefact which has multiple conchoidal fractures. It is formed on a flake of perfectly clear rock crystal, is roughly circular and has bifacial, invasive, scaled working. Some edges have low angle retouch while others are vertical. It is 15.4mm long, 16.1mm wide and 7.3mm thick. 1.5g. The rock crystal is hard enough to scratch glass.
Rock crystal was used rarely throughout prehistory; this example comes from a multi-period site of mainly Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (4000 BC - 1000 BC). The finder reports that evidence of platform crystal glass has p…

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Calderdale
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A piece of flint debitage; a chunk of flint partially encasing a large chalky stone inclusion. It is of unknown date, Mesolithic to Bronze Age, about 9000 BC - 1000 BC. The flint is cherty and patinated to white. It has removal scars, but some are natural potlid fractures. It is probably evidence of the raw material used for flint working at the site and was probably discared early in the knapping process. It is 35.3mm long, 20.1mm wide and 14.1mm thick. 9.2g.

Object type: DISCOIDAL KNIFE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Small sub-oval discoidal knife, made from a primary flake, the dorsal face retains a central patch of thin yellowish to white cortex, all other surfaces (apart from the platform) are modified by invasive direct percussion, the ventral face appears to have no original surface of the “blank” flake this was made from extant; the flakes neatly overlap at the centre, there is a linear flaw to this face, the flake scars stop dead either side of this. The flint is unpatinated semi-translucent brown/grey.
Early Bronze Age, 2,350 to 1,500 BC.
