Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Distal end of large primary flake, the proximal end has been broken transversely in antiquity, both lateral edges are steeply retouched on the dorsal face to form an irregular point, this appears to have been used as some sort of piercer as the pointed end is damaged and an internal crack within the flint is visible. The flint is patinated slightly brown, but was originally mottled grey, the extant cortex is now a sandy colour. Neolithic to Bronze Age, 4,000 to 700 BC.

Small and stout discoidal core, of sub-plano-convex section with one side deeper than the other. The flint is patined almost white in some areas, with spotty iron stains to both faces, unusually the flint has a natural boundary between striped and swirls, both  of grey and white, recent damage to the edges show the main colour of the flint to have been of darker greys. All flakes appear to be hard hammer struck. Neolithic, 4,000 to 2,350 BC.

Polyhedral head of a middle-Saxon pin with a short extant length of collared shaft. The head is like a cuboid with each of the four corners of each face cut off, not particularly symmetrically. The theoretical cuboid would have two near-square faces and four rectangular faces, just over half as wide as they are long, with the pin emerging from the centre of one of the rectangular faces. The central and largest facet on each the broad (‘square’) faces is irregularly lozenge-shaped, or near-lozenge-shaped hexagonal. These are each decorated with four punched or negatively-mou…
