Object type: HARNESS MOUNT
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Roman copper alloy military harness mount, heart-shaped with a median arris and rounded convex-fronted lobe at the base. An integral attachment shank rises from the centre of the concave reverse. It is round in cross-section and T-shaped. Nicolay 2007, Type B19, and very similar to pl.80, no. 100.37. An example from Suffolk (SF-D5BB0B) is quite similar though there is a central projection at the top rather than a V-shaped notch. Weight 2.02g. Height 19.9mm. Width 13.8mm. The length of the shank suggests that the thickness of leather through which it passed was c.5mm. c.125 - c.300.
