The wings are C-shaped in cross-section and are each moulded on the front with two transverse wavy lines interspersed with three plain, transversely convex bands. On the reverse of the wings there are patches of brown corrosion products adhering to the right end and the centre, with a much smaller amount at the left end. These may reflect the use of solder in these locations (ibid, 60). The rearhook appears to be complete. As it spring…

A copper alloy strap slide of post medieval date (c. 1650-1800). The object is roughly circular in plan, with a slightly convex front face, c.2mm thick. Two flattened-oval sectioned lugs project from opposite ends of the reverse face, each is covered by iron corrosion product, presumably from iron rivets or inserts to the lugs. Incised curved lines radiating from a central circle decorate the front face of the object. There is some suggestion of finer decoration between the radiating lines, but the loss of the original surface to corrosion obscures any further definition. The object i…

A groat with slight damage around the edges and a fair amount of wear on the obverse face, as well as a hole punched through the coin at the top of the cross on the reverse face. This was prbably made to allow the coin to be strung on a string/chain and used as a pendant or amulet. The obverse face has a portrait that is unfortunately too heavily worn to discern any details; this is surrounded by a rose-window-style border. Not enough of the edge remains to identify the inscription. On the reverse face is a long cross and two rings bearing inscriptions; there are three pellets in eac…
