A lead alloy possible toy fragment of probable Modern date, AD 1900 - 1960. It is a hollow cast rounded and tapered object, solid at its narrower end and decorated on the outer face with moulded lines to represent hair. This is tentatively suggested to be a fragment of an upper limb from a toy animal. Dimensions: length 19.5mm, height 11.4mm, thickness 6.8mm, weight 2.45g. Toy farm animals became popular after Britains launched their Farm Range in the early 1920s. The method of manufacture used is consistent with this item and suggests a modern date around 1900-1960. A barrel-shaped lead weight with a hole along the centre of the long axis, of unknown date, Roman to Post Medieval, AD 43 - 1900. It is circular in cross-section and tapers at each end, terminating in flat faces (now damaged). Dimensions: length 30.4mm, diameter 24.5mm, weight 87.35g. There is no evidence of an iron hook. If the weight had a copper alloy loop in the hole, it could have been a hanging weight of steelyard weight, perhaps of four ounces. Alternatively, it could be a net sinker - a weight threaded into a line, string or net for use in fishing or netting. Compare SWYOR-01DD1A.
