Head fragment of a large copper alloy Colchester derivative rear-hook Roman brooch of Mackreth type 1.c. The spring, hook, pin, foot and catchplate are all missing. The C-section bilateral wings are long and completely moulded with bead and reel decoration. The beads flanking the head of the bow are laterally grooved. The upper bow is moulded with flat sides with a single medial groove running down the length of the bow from the damaged hook at the head, to the break before the foot. Width 53mm, extant length 34mm, weight 19.2g. Circa 50-80AD.
